BIG SPECIAL comprises vocalist Joe Hicklin and drummer Callum Moloney, both hailing from the Black Country region of the United Kingdom. The duo first met during a BTEC music course in Birmingham, where they quickly bonded over their shared passion for music. After a decade of pursuing separate projects and careers, they reunited during the COVID-19 lockdowns, channeling their experiences and frustrations into a new musical endeavor that would become BIG SPECIAL.

In 2024, BIG SPECIAL released their highly anticipated debut album, 'POSTINDUSTRIAL HOMETOWN BLUES,' via SO Recordings. The album received widespread acclaim for its raw energy and honest portrayal of working-class life. Tracks like 'DUST OFF / START AGAIN' and 'BLACK DOG / WHITE HORSE' showcase the duo's ability to blend biting spoken word with soulful vocals and powerful instrumentation.
