Coral Grief

In the vibrant music scene of Seattle, Washington, a new dream pop project emerged in 2020: Coral Grief. The band was founded by Lena Farr-Morrissey and Sam Fason, who shared a passion for creating textured and ethereal soundscapes. Their collaboration began during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that provided both challenges and opportunities for creative exploration.

Working from their home studios, Lena and Sam dedicated themselves to writing and recording their debut self-titled EP. In February 2023, they released their sophomore EP, 'Daydrops,' through Seattle-based label Den Tapes. This six-track collection expanded on the trio's strengths, offering more energetic contrasts and vibrant production.

The songs on 'Daydrops' revolve around themes of personal and collective stagnation, exploring feelings of isolation and the search for meaning amidst disorder. Tracks like 'Copycat' and 'Wow Signal' received particular acclaim for their hypnotic rhythms and kaleidoscopic psych frameworks. The EP's release was accompanied by a music video for 'Wow Signal,' directed by Mads Engel, which further highlighted the band's artistic vision.

Critics praised 'Daydrops' for its intricate compositions and the seamless integration of ambient guitars, weaving synths, and propulsive drum patterns. The EP solidified Coral Grief's reputation as a band capable of crafting mesmerizing performances with lush, textured production.

With the release of 'Daydrops,' Coral Grief embarked on extensive touring throughout the western United States. Their dynamic live performances captivated audiences at various festivals, including Treefort Music Fest, Capitol Hill Block Party, and South by Southwest. These appearances allowed the band to reach a broader audience and showcase their evolving sound.

In addition to festival performances, Coral Grief played at some of Seattle's most iconic venues, opening for acclaimed artists like Indigo de Souza, Chastity Belt, and Luna. Their ability to seamlessly shift between driving, motorik rhythms and enveloping ambient atmospherics made their live shows a must-see experience.
