Early Life
Robin Hunt was born and raised in the Netherlands, where he developed a passion for electronic dance music during his teenage years. This early interest led him to explore DJing, and by 2005, he was performing at various venues and festivals, including the renowned Defqon.1 Festival. His experiences during this period laid the foundation for his future career in music production and engineering.
Career
After completing his Bachelor of Music degree, Robin moved to Berlin and established a studio in an abandoned casting factory. It was here that he co-produced and mixed Thomas Azier’s acclaimed debut album, 'Hylas'. Seeking new challenges, he relocated to Paris to work at Ferber Studios, collaborating with artists signed to Universal Afrique. In 2017, Robin returned to Berlin and co-founded the Atlas label with Isa Azier and Ferran Huijsmans, developing talents such as Remme and Stevie Bill. His focus shifted primarily to mixing, leading to prestigious projects like Faber's 'Addio' album, Anouk’s 'Wen D’r Maar Aan', and collaborations with Son Mieux featuring Nile Rodgers. His work also includes Aloe Blacc's title song for the 'Believe' documentary and Roxy Dekker's chart-topping singles in the Netherlands.
Studio Development
In early 2022, Robin embarked on building a state-of-the-art mix room at his home in Attendorn, Germany. Collaborating with acoustician Jochen Veith of JV Acoustics, the project took two years to complete, culminating in June 2024. The studio features PMC IB2S XBD monitors, chosen for their accuracy and transparency, ensuring that Robin's mixes translate perfectly across various playback systems. The facility is also prepared for future Dolby Atmos upgrades, reflecting Robin's commitment to staying at the forefront of audio technology.
Influence
Robin Hunt's meticulous approach to mixing and production has influenced a new generation of audio engineers and producers. His emphasis on understanding the emotional intent behind each track and his dedication to sonic excellence serve as a benchmark in the industry. By co-founding the Atlas label, he has also played a pivotal role in nurturing emerging artists, contributing to the evolution of contemporary music.
