Formation and Early Years
In their early teens, sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller joined forces with drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel and guitarist Megan Fitchett to form the pop-punk quartet Done with Dolls in Toronto. The band gained initial recognition by performing the theme song for the Family Channel sitcom 'Really Me' and touring with Allstar Weekend in 2011. By 2013, Fitchett had departed, and the group welcomed guitarist Leandra Earl, rebranding themselves as The Beaches, inspired by their Toronto neighborhood. This transition marked a shift towards a more alternative rock sound, leading to the release of their self-titled EP in 2013 and 'Heights' in 2014.
Breakthrough with 'Late Show'
Signing with Universal Records in 2016, The Beaches released their debut full-length album, 'Late Show,' in 2017. Produced by Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric, the album featured standout singles like 'Money' and 'T-Shirt.' The latter achieved significant success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Canada Rock chart and earning Gold certification by Music Canada in 2021. This period of rising prominence was crowned by winning the Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year in 2018.
Continued Success and 'Blame My Ex'
Building on their momentum, The Beaches released two EPs, 'The Professional' in 2019 and 'Future Lovers' in 2021. These works showcased their evolving sound and lyrical depth. In 2023, they independently released their second studio album, 'Blame My Ex,' under AWAL. The lead single, 'Blame Brett,' became a viral sensation, topping the Billboard Canada Rock chart and marking their first charting single in the United States. The album's success was further solidified by winning the Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year in 2024 and a nomination for the Polaris Music Prize.
Live Performances and Tours
Renowned for their electrifying live shows, The Beaches have graced numerous prestigious stages. They've opened for legendary acts like The Rolling Stones and Foo Fighters, and have been featured at major festivals including Coachella and Osheaga. Their 'Blame My Ex' tour in 2023 saw sold-out venues across North America, reflecting their growing fanbase and the universal appeal of their music.
Upcoming Album: 'No Hard Feelings'
Looking ahead, The Beaches are set to release their third studio album, 'No Hard Feelings,' on August 29, 2025, under AWAL. Preceded by singles like 'Takes One to Know One' and 'Last Girls at the Party,' the album promises to deliver the band's signature blend of rock energy and introspective lyrics. To support the release, they will embark on the 'No Hard Feelings Tour,' spanning North America from August to November 2025, further cementing their status as a formidable force in the rock music scene.
