Thomas Matthew Crooks

Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022 and subsequently earned an associate degree in engineering science from the Community College of Allegheny County in 2024. At the time of the shooting, he was employed as a dietary aide at a local nursing home.

On July 13, 2024, Crooks attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump during a political rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. Using a legally purchased AR-15-style rifle, Crooks fired at Trump from a nearby rooftop, injuring Trump and two attendees, and killing one. He was subsequently shot and killed by the United States Secret Service Counter Assault Team. The FBI is currently investigating the incident, and Crooks' motivation remains unclear.

Crooks was a registered Republican and had been actively registered to vote since September 2021. He participated in the 2022 midterm elections.
