Adult Leisure was formed in 2020 during the UK lockdown, bringing together seasoned musicians from Bristol's indie scene. Guitarist David Woolford and bassist James Laing, formerly of Moon Club, joined forces with vocalist Neil Scott from Aztecs and drummer Nathan Searle of Towers. Their shared desire to create music during the pandemic led to the formation of the band, which quickly developed a unique sound blending melodic alt-indie with heartfelt lyricism.

The band's debut single, 'Things You Don't Know Yet,' released in March 2022, received positive attention from BBC Upload and music blogs, marking a promising start to their journey. This initial success set the tone for their subsequent releases and growing fanbase.

In December 2022, Adult Leisure released their debut EP, 'The Weekend Ritual,' which was met with critical acclaim. The EP featured a collection of tracks that showcased the band's ability to blend introspective lyrics with catchy melodies. Songs like 'Modern Son' and 'Things You Don't Know Yet' resonated with listeners, leading to over 60,000 streams and recognition from outlets such as BBC Radio 1 and Variance Magazine.

The success of 'The Weekend Ritual' propelled the band into the spotlight, allowing them to embark on multiple UK tours and perform at various festivals. Their energetic live shows and authentic connection with audiences further solidified their reputation as a band to watch in the indie music scene.

Building on their initial success, Adult Leisure released their second EP, 'Present State of Joy and Grief,' in November 2023. This release demonstrated the band's growth and willingness to explore new musical territories. Tracks like 'All For You' and 'Bad Idea' delved into themes of self-reflection, unhealthy relationships, and personal growth, resonating deeply with listeners.

The EP received support from BBC Radio 1 and Wonderland Magazine, and was even selected by producer Jake Gosling to be played in Hotel Chocolat stores worldwide. This period marked a significant step in the band's evolution, showcasing their ability to craft music that is both emotionally impactful and sonically engaging.

In 2024 and 2025, Adult Leisure continued to release new music that pushed their creative boundaries. Singles like 'Borderline' and 'Dancing Don't Feel Right' showcased their ability to blend danceable grooves with introspective lyrics. 'Borderline,' inspired by personal experiences of heartbreak, featured rich melodies and radiant synths, while 'Dancing Don't Feel Right' invited listeners to embrace rebellion and desire.

The band's growing popularity led to their biggest headline show to date at Bristol's Thekla in October 2025, and a publishing deal with Wipeout Music. With an ever-expanding fanbase and a commitment to authentic storytelling through music, Adult Leisure is poised for continued success in the indie music scene.
