Riccardo Paffetti, known professionally as Black Loops, was born and raised in Arezzo, Italy. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he was exposed to a variety of musical genres from an early age. His initial foray into music began with drumming, a passion that led him to perform with several local bands. This foundation in rhythm and percussion would later influence his approach to electronic music production.

During his formative years, Riccardo attended the Arezzo Wave Festival, one of Europe's largest free music festivals. This event introduced him to a diverse array of artists and genres, sparking his interest in electronic music. The festival's eclectic lineup, featuring acts like Moby and Aphex Twin, left a lasting impression on him and played a pivotal role in shaping his musical tastes.

Black Loops began his career in the early 2010s, initially collaborating with fellow musician Gabriele Micheli. The duo moved to Berlin in 2013, immersing themselves in the city's vibrant electronic music scene. Their debut EP, 'Right Now,' released on Toy Tonics, marked the beginning of a series of successful releases that blended elements of funk, soul, and disco with house music.

After parting ways with Micheli around 2017, Riccardo continued the Black Loops project as a solo endeavor. He released several acclaimed EPs on labels such as Neovinyl Recordings, Pets Recordings, and Freerange. His track 'Sex' gained significant attention, amassing over four million streams on Spotify. In 2017, Traxsource recognized his contributions to the genre by naming him the #1 Deep House Artist of the year.

In addition to his production work, Black Loops has toured extensively, performing at venues and festivals across Europe, Australia, and Canada. His dynamic DJ sets are known for their energy and ability to connect with diverse audiences, further cementing his status as a leading figure in the house music scene.

Black Loops' music is deeply influenced by the sounds of 90s UK house and early 2000s New York house. He draws inspiration from artists like Metro Area, whose track 'Miura' was a defining moment in his musical journey. This blend of classic house elements with modern production techniques has resulted in a unique sound that appeals to both purists and new listeners.

His background as a drummer contributes to the rhythmic complexity of his productions. By incorporating live instrumentation and analog synthesizers, Black Loops creates tracks that are both organic and dancefloor-ready. His commitment to authenticity and innovation has inspired a new generation of producers to explore the intersections of different musical genres within the house music framework.

Black Loops has an extensive discography that showcases his evolution as an artist. His early releases include seven EPs on the German label Toy Tonics, which helped establish his reputation in the house music community. In subsequent years, he released music on labels such as Neovinyl Recordings, Pets Recordings, and Freerange. His 2019 EP 'Gwei Lo' on Pets Recordings and the 2020 release 'Homesick' on Freerange are standout examples of his ability to blend deep house with elements of funk and soul. As of 2025, Black Loops is preparing to release his debut full-length album, a project that promises to encapsulate his artistic journey and showcase his growth as a producer.
