Davolee, born Shokoya Oluwasegunfunmi on May 18, 1995, in Isolo, Lagos State, could not afford university and initially sold water on Mushin Street in Lagos before turning to music full time. A viral cover of Desiigner's 'Panda' caught the attention of YBNL Nation, and Olamide signed him to the label in November 2016.
His profile grew rapidly with the chart-topping collaboration 'Pepper Dem Gang' alongside Olamide, followed by further hits including 'Juju,' 'Guns & Roses' and 'For the Hood.' He departed YBNL in April 2019 amid reported creative differences and launched his own independent imprint, New Nation Muzik, continuing to release music and earning nominations including Artiste of the Year at the Top Naija Music Awards.
