Flower Face has been releasing music online for nearly a decade. Her journey began organically, without the assistance of a manager or extensive promotion. In 2021, Flower Face signed with Nettwerk Records, a decision she approached with caution due to preconceived notions about record labels. However, Nettwerk's support and understanding of her artistic vision provided her with the perfect match, allowing her to maintain creative control while benefiting from the label's resources.

Flower Face's music is characterized by confessional songwriting and a blend of indie, alternative, and folk influences. Her inspirations include artists like The National, Bright Eyes, and Conor Oberst, whose songwriting styles have deeply influenced her approach to music. Conor Oberst's confessional lyrics taught Ruby to embrace vulnerability in her writing, while The National inspired her to explore different ways of expressing emotions.

Ruby's songwriting process is organic and often messy. She keeps numerous notebooks and uses her phone's notes app to jot down lyric ideas as they come to her. Her latest single, 'Cornflower Blue,' exemplifies her creative process, where a single line can evolve into an entire song. The song reflects on themes of love and disillusionment, drawing inspiration from the story of Vermeer and his use of the expensive cornflower blue paint.
