Growing up in the artistic community of Woodstock, New York, Jayla Kai was immersed in a rich cultural environment that nurtured her creative spirit. Homeschooled from a young age, she had the freedom to explore various artistic disciplines, including music, animation, and video editing. This unconventional education allowed her to develop a unique perspective and a diverse skill set. Influenced by the vibrant local music scene and artists like Andrew Bird and Laura Marling, Jayla began writing and performing her own songs during her teenage years, laying the foundation for her future career.

In July 2021, Jayla Kai released her debut EP, 'Epitome,' a five-track collection that introduced her distinctive sound to the world. The EP features songs like 'I Can't Lie,' 'Apple Tree,' and 'Paperread,' each highlighting her introspective lyrics and genre-blending compositions. Critics praised the EP for its raw emotion and sonic experimentation, drawing comparisons to artists such as Fiona Apple and Regina Spektor.
