Born as Sancha Ndeko, Mia Koden spent her early years in Ghana and Nigeria, where she was deeply influenced by her parents' extensive collection of African music. This rich musical environment exposed her to a variety of sounds and rhythms, fostering a deep appreciation for diverse musical styles. Upon returning to the UK, she continued to explore her passion for music, attending sound system events that featured roots reggae, drum & bass, and dubstep. These experiences played a crucial role in shaping her musical identity and laid the groundwork for her future career as a DJ and producer.

Mia Koden's professional journey began in 2016 when she co-founded the DJ duo Sicaria Sound with her university classmate Lou Nour. The duo quickly gained recognition for their forward-thinking approach to 140 BPM music, becoming resident DJs for Mala's Deep Medi Musik label and securing a monthly residency on Rinse FM from 2018 onward. Their dynamic performances and commitment to promoting emerging bass music artists earned them a dedicated following.

In late 2021, Mia and Lou amicably parted ways to pursue solo careers. Embracing her new alias, Mia Koden, she released her debut solo EP 'Hot Take / I Did' in early 2023. The EP showcased her ability to blend elements of dub, 2-step, UK steppas, and electro, marking a significant step in her artistic evolution. Later that year, she signed with the renowned Munich-based label Ilian Tape and released the 'Decode' EP, further solidifying her reputation as an innovative force in the electronic music scene.

Mia Koden's music is deeply rooted in her diverse cultural background and her experiences within the UK's vibrant sound system culture. Her productions and DJ sets are characterized by a fusion of dubstep, grime, and footwork, reflecting her commitment to honoring the traditions of bass music while pushing its boundaries. She often incorporates samples from vintage sound system tapes and draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, creating immersive auditory experiences that resonate with audiences worldwide.

As a Black woman excelling in a predominantly male-dominated genre, Mia serves as a role model and brings a fresh perspective to the UK bass scene. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to connect with listeners on a profound level have established her as a significant figure in contemporary electronic music.

Mia Koden's discography as a solo artist includes several notable releases that have garnered critical acclaim. In early 2023, she self-released the 'Hot Take / I Did' EP, which served as a bridge between her work with Sicaria Sound and her solo endeavors. The EP was praised for its innovative blend of genres and its reflection of her evolving sound.

Later in 2023, she released the 'Decode' EP on Ilian Tape, featuring tracks like '10easy,' 'Racket,' 'Sludge,' and 'Après Vous.' This release showcased her ability to seamlessly integrate elements of dubstep, grime, and footwork, further establishing her as a versatile and forward-thinking producer. Her music continues to evolve, with each release offering new insights into her artistic vision and technical prowess.
