Early Life
Felix Clary Weatherall grew up near Colchester in Essex in a musical household where his father's interest in sound systems and DIY parties left a clear imprint on his tastes. The family environment exposed him to analogue electronics and tapes from an early age, which later fed into his interest in texture and tape-worn sonics.
He experimented with music under various names before settling on the tongue-in-cheek moniker Ross From Friends in 2012, a name chosen after a television in his studio would only play episodes of the sitcom Friends. This anecdote became a memorable part of his early story as he began releasing small-run singles and EPs on independent UK labels.
Career and Breakthrough
Ross From Friends moved from limited-run 12' singles to wider attention after several acclaimed EPs and singles earned plays across the international electronic scene. His signing to Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder imprint and the release of his debut album Family Portrait in 2018 marked a clear step up and brought him coverage in major outlets and festival bookings.
Alongside studio releases he developed a distinctive live show built around three performers, adding live saxophone and guitar to his electronic backbone, which helped translate his records into dynamic festival sets. He has played major stages including Glastonbury and Coachella, consolidating a reputation as both a studio-focused producer and an engaging live act.
Bubble Love, Scarlet Tiger and Recent Work
In 2024 Weatherall introduced an alter-ego, Bubble Love, as a way to channel higher-energy, club-focused material that complements the more introspective Ross From Friends catalogue. The Bubble Love tracks and performances emphasize rawer, pop-leaning house energy while still carrying Weatherall's sample-based sensibility.
He also founded the Scarlet Tiger imprint to have a direct outlet for his own releases and like-minded artists, and continued to release music across Brainfeeder and his own label. In addition to traditional releases, he has shared creative tools with the community, including a free sample/recording utility tied to his album sessions.
