Shakk

Born and raised in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom, Shakk developed a passion for music at an early age. Immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of the North East, he was influenced by a variety of musical genres, which later shaped his eclectic sound. His formative years were spent exploring the local music scene, attending gigs, and honing his craft as a performer.

During his teenage years, Shakk pursued his education in London, where he was exposed to a diverse range of musical styles and cultures. Despite his time in the capital, his heart remained in the North East, and he returned to Middlesbrough to contribute to the local music community.

Shakk burst onto the music scene in September 2018 with the release of his debut EP, 'I Am You.' The launch event in his hometown was a sell-out, marking the beginning of a promising career. His dynamic performances and genre-blending style quickly garnered attention, leading to opportunities to perform at prestigious venues such as the O2 Academy and festivals like BBC Music's The Biggest Weekend Fringe, Twisterella, and Lindisfarne Festival.

His second EP featured standout singles like 'Friends,' 'Butterfly Trees,' and 'Sunrays.' The latter was awarded BBC Introducing Track of the Week by Rianne Thompson and was included in the BBC Introducing 2020 Hotlist. Shakk's dedication and talent were further recognized when he was shortlisted for Performing Artist of the Year at the 2021 Culture Awards. Notably, he became the first rapper to perform at Durham Cathedral in its 888-year history, a testament to his groundbreaking approach to music.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Shakk took on the role of presenter for BBC Introducing North East, where he champions emerging artists and provides insights from the frontline of music creation. His firsthand experience as an artist allows him to connect with and support the local music community effectively.

Shakk's influence extends beyond his music; he is a passionate advocate for the Tees Valley music scene.
