Thunder Rosa

Melissa Cervantes, known professionally as Thunder Rosa, was born on July 22, 1986, in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. She moved to the United States in her youth, where she pursued her education with determination. Cervantes attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. Her academic background provided her with a deep understanding of social dynamics, which she later applied to her work as a social worker, assisting at-risk young adults facing challenges such as mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse.

Thunder Rosa's wrestling journey began in 2014, debuting in a Supreme Pro Wrestling battle royal in Sacramento, California. She quickly made a name for herself with her unique blend of American, Japanese 'strong style,' and Mexican lucha libre techniques. In 2015, she joined Lucha Underground as Kobra Moon, leading the Reptile Tribe and capturing the Lucha Underground Trios Championship. Her career continued to flourish as she competed in promotions like Ring of Honor and Women of Wrestling, where she performed under the name Serpentine.

In 2019, Thunder Rosa achieved a significant milestone by winning the NWA World Women's Championship, becoming the first Mexican-born wrestler to hold the title. Her success continued in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where she debuted in 2020 and won the AEW Women's World Championship in 2022 after a memorable steel cage match against Britt Baker in her adoptive hometown of San Antonio, Texas.

Beyond wrestling, Thunder Rosa ventured into mixed martial arts (MMA). In 2019, she signed with Combate Americas and made her professional MMA debut on November 8, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas. Although she lost the fight by unanimous decision, her foray into MMA showcased her versatility and commitment to challenging herself as an athlete. In 2022, she returned to Combate Global as a color commentator, further expanding her presence in the combat sports world.

Demonstrating her dedication to women's wrestling, Thunder Rosa founded Mission Pro Wrestling (MPW), an all-female wrestling promotion based in Texas. MPW aims to provide a platform for underrepresented wrestlers and promote women's wrestling. Through MPW, Thunder Rosa has been instrumental in creating opportunities for female wrestlers and advocating for equality in the sport. Her efforts have been recognized by the city of San Antonio, which declared March 16 as 'Thunder Rosa Day' in honor of her contributions to the community and the wrestling industry.

Thunder Rosa married Brian Cervantes on December 21, 2006, and together they have a son named Anakin, born on August 31, 2005. Balancing her personal and professional life, she has managed to excel in both arenas. In 2019, she achieved a personal milestone by becoming a U.S. citizen, a moment she described as a lifelong dream come true. This achievement further solidified her connection to her adopted country and its wrestling community.
